I was asked to help volunteer for a large event hosted by the local Girls on the Run chapter. Multiple schools and hundreds of girls in two large waves needed a lot of volunteers to help run it smoothly. Considering it was windy, raining, and unseasonably cold for the day.

Despite the weather turning for the worst, everyone was in amazing spirits and showed up with smiles on their faces ready for a fun event.

This day brought every difficult aspect you’ll experience in photography into play. Rain that can ruin a camera. Darker lighting which usually means you need a slower shutter speed, but since we had a fast moving subject, that wasn’t an option. A photographer can raise their ISO, but too high means grainy poor quality photos. This is where choosing the right lens really comes into play allowing me to have a larger aperture allowing in more light and kept my shutter speed at 1/1000 for capturing the fast paced subjects.
